The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded the recall of meats originating from Ranchers Beef Ltd. in Alberta. Earlier, the meat producer was fingered for the E. coli outbreak which ultimately forced Topps Meat Co. out of business.

Tyson Foods going Antibiotic-Free

Tyson Foods, one of the United States’ largest poultry producers, has announced that they will no longer be using antibiotics for their fresh chicken sold in stores. The chicken will cost slightly more as a result of this change, but they anticipate that the change will actually increase demand for their chicken.
Personally, I know that [...]

That’s Not Monkfish!

What an odd coincidence; I found an article today that combined my points from two recent posts: Chinese Food Imports Under Microscope and DNA Test that Sushi!
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that two consumers were hospitalized after eating pufferfish that was mislabelled as monkfish. The fish was imported from China.
Pufferfish is also known as fugu. [...]

It says that [...]

Recall Update #2: Royal Canin

Royal Canin has recalled their Medi-Cal Feline Dissolution Formula canned diet due to contaminated wheat gluten. This food was manufactured in Menu Foods’ Ontario plant, and is the only Royal Canin canned food which contains wheat gluten. It is only sold by vets.
The despair has just become resignation, and waiting to hear which product is [...]

Organic vs Locally Grown Food

About a month ago, we shopped at Organza Market, a grocery store which specializes in organic and natural foods. We bought a few things, and for the most part we were pleased with what we got.
One of the items we purchased was Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies. They were great-tasting, and completely suitable replacements for Pepperidge [...]
