DNA Test that Sushi!!

We had dinner at the Sushi Train last night. While we were eating, I was thinking about an article I read recently. The Chicago Sun Times did DNA testing on red snapper at 14 different restaurants around Chicago. None of them - not one - was really red snapper. Most of them were tilapia, while the rest was red seabream.

Most of us can easily identify the basic sushi fish: tuna, salmon, mackerel, shrimp, etc. But do you really know what river eel tastes like? More importantly, would you know the difference if something else was substituted in its place?

I know that 99% of us don’t have the means to get our food DNA tested to make sure that it’s really what the menu says it is… All the more reason to be wary when eating something “exotic.”
