More Pet Food Recalls, Human Food Tainted as Well

Many of these recalls affect only certain manufacture dates; if you have any of these foods please check the manufacturer’s website for details.
The FDA has also done something right; they’ve added a search page for brands affected by the recalls, so you can check right away if your food is affected. The American Veterinary Medical Association also has a comprehensive list of recalled foods.
Expect more pet food recalls. Royal Canin South Africa is reporting melamine contamination in corn gluten imported from China, and there is speculation that these foods might be spiked intentionally in order to boost the apparent protein content. This is probably more widespread than anyone could have guessed.
Human Food, Too
And, as I speculated earlier, the melamine contamination is making its way into the human food stream. The FDA has issued a warning about pork from a California pig farm.
If you have a minute, there was an interesting article printed in the Wall Street Journal on April 13: “Who’s Monitoring Chinese Food Exports?” The article outlines some of the many problems there have been with food exported from China, and not just gluten.

I was just speculateing on the effects of farm animals eating tainted food ; being a poultry farmer, my post focused on chicken not pork, but news that corn was now effected, and chickens eat corn one thing lead to another and I started questioning what we feed our chickens
here is my post: http://eelkat.wordpress.com/2007/04/17/pet-food-recall-update-are-our-pet-birds-safe-are-humane-who-eat-chicken-next/
my mom lost 4 cats and I lost 1 cat to this contamination already… why is this happening?

Well, so far all of the contaminated food has been sourced from China. It would be a good idea to talk to your feed supplier and check where all of the feed ingredients come from. If they don’t know or won’t tell you, it would probably be prudent to switch suppliers.
