Another Pet Food Recall…

Natural Balance, which was touted as a great alternative to the grocery-store brands that were hit by the Menu Foods recall last month, announced that it is recalling two specific varieties of dog and cat food. The recall affects Venison & Brown Rice Dry dog food and Venison & Green Pea Dry cat food.

The question, of course, is whether the company would have recalled these products a year ago, or if the company (and consumers) have become hyper-sensitive to possible problems in the wake of the Menu Foods debacle. I would like to think that a company would always be very concerned about the safety and quality of their product. The cynic in me thinks that public relations and profit come first, safety and quality second. Not for all companies, sure, but I’m looking at everything with a much more suspicious eye now.
